Self-inflicted Limitations in the Gay Community

In my experience I have seen many people attempt to separate gay friends and potential partners in their lives. It usually is met with disappointment, as with most limitations placed on life. Why is it that some members of the gay community find it so important to make these separations in life?

Jealousy is one reason that comes to mind. It is an understandable fear, considering that gay people date gay people. Therefore, the potential exists for a gay friend to end up becoming involved with another gay friend's potential partner. For some people that can be quite threatening to self-esteem and self-worth.

Really, the reason isn't jealousy, it's actually self-esteem and self-worth issues that are at the heart of the limitations people place on themselves, relationships and friendships. Until individuals deal with these core personal issues, life will continue to be impeded by countless and illogical self-inflicted limitations.
