Gay Marriage, will we ever agree?
Gay marriage has been an issue for sometime in America.
During the November election, it became a national issue in not only the 11 states where a gay marriage ban was on the ballot but also in the presidential race and subsequent debates. Not even the gay community has a unified voice on this issue. I have personally talked to many homosexuals that are completely against the idea of gay marriage.
Both the national and state parties are at odds with each other and their candidates for public office on the issue of gay marriage.
How is it that no one group seems to have one true message to say about the marriage issue?
Marriage is something that we have all seen in one way or another, albeit looking from the outside or from the inside of one.
Growing up, we were all impacted by marriage, even if our parents were divorced, separated, married, or deceased. In those early formative years to the present we had marriage all around us, and therefore people have very strong views on it that they have developed and are developing today.
Will society ever be able to agree on gay marriage?
Most probably in most of our lifetimes, we will never see agreement on any issue, let alone the issue of gay marriage. It takes generations for issues at the heart of society to change and alter their course. Marriage is most definitely at the heart of society. Now that both nationally and worldwide this issue has been forced out into the open, the chances of agreement have increased. It is through the discussions of today, that the next generation will be founded.
Will the next generation be more open or more closed to gay marriage?
Only time will tell.
