TGTBT - cousin of TNT

Filed under: Gay Life, Gay Philosophy — Gay Life @ 4:55 pm

There have been so many instances over 2004 that have really hit home to me the idea of TGTBT. It stands for Too Good To Be True. Yeah, that can be pretty explosive at times under the “right circumstances. I’ve watched not only myself get burned many times, but after I learned my lesson I had plenty of examples from the people around me doing the same thing for something that was just TGTBT.

From people to deals that just can’t be passed up, there are a host of things that are just TGTBT. I won’t even begin to bore you with the details of how I learned how destructive TGTBT can be to your life, your friends, your family, you name it.

I think the destructive potential of these types of situations is multiplied by the hope we have for the ultimate outcome. Some people keep hope alive for the TGTBT. Others immediately jump to the worst-case scenarios. In either case, TGTBT can be just as nasty. Let’s take the GB out of TGTBT because it oftentimes is just Too Too True.

It’s always difficult to not choose what appears to benefit us the most when it is ever offered, especially if served on a “silver platter. Even though the platter may turn out to be actual silver, what’s served on it might just be a complete illusion. Remember TGTBT’s close relative, TNT, when that “silver platter appears, because it just might blow up in your face.

Avoiding Unnecessary Conversation

Filed under: Gay Life, Gay Philosophy — Gay Life @ 4:09 pm

I was riding the MUNI here in San Francisco when my eyes came upon a sign.

Information glady given but safety requires avoiding unnecessary conversation.

I at once began to think of all the unnecessary conversation I may partake in from time to time and the constant battle at filtering that conversation into what is important and not just fascinating.

Unnecessary information can drain your own energy, as well as the energy of those listening to it. In the wake of this unnecessary conversation, a vacuum can form because some people will close themselves off to it. This is where lots of good, necessary ideas can be lost.

Avoid using unnecessary information at all costs. If you are in doubt, write it down right then. Carry a little notebook in order to write down these thoughts that may be very important but not yet at the point of clarity for discussion. At least if you write it down, you won’t lose ideas and avoid the costly vacuum!

“The Radical Truth-Teller”

Filed under: Gay Life, Gay Philosophy — Gay Life @ 3:44 pm

Excerpt from the December 15th to 22nd, 2004 of Free Will Astrology by Rob Breszny:

Taurus (April 20-May 20): Have you heard of the book Toxic Sludge Is Good for You!: Lies, Damn Lies and the Public Relations Industry? How about George Orwell’s science fiction novel, 1984, in which the government trumpets the slogan, “War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength”? If I could I’d give you these books as holiday gifts, Taurus. I’d also present you with an altar made of fine wood. With these foundation materials, I’d ask you to begin building a Truth Shrine in your home. This source of power might help you stay alert for and immune to the elevated levels of BS you’ll be called on to fend off in 2005. Maybe it would also inspire you to be in service to us all as you earn the title of “Radical Truth-Teller.”

When I picked up a copy of a local news publication and checked up on my Weekly Horoscope as I hadn’t done in ages, I found it particularly on target for the developments of not only this website, but some of the very articles I’ve been writing and preparing for publication here and elsewhere. There are so many nuances to these few lines over the last two weeks, I found myself compelled to share at least a few with my readers.

Just the other evening my friend’s TV happened to be showing the movie based on the very novel, 1984. It was then, not just today, that I had the urging to once again open the pages of Orwell’s amazing story of where he saw society heading. I must say his predictions are quite scary and appear to be moving forward into the reality of our world today.

I’ll have to read 1984 to see how much my views of Orwell’s vision have changed since reading it back in high school so many years ago. Also, I’ll be finding a copy of Toxic Sludge is Good for You! because that sounds like the slogan of the Bush re-election campaign that seemed to satisfy the majority of voters on November 2nd. I mean, really, what in his first four appointed years did he actually do well? I still haven’t heard an answer to that question to all the Bush supporters I’ve found in every community. Please add a comment to this article if you have some evidence to the contrary.

The government slogan Breszny refers to from Orwell’s vision seems to ring true enough today. We live with leaders preaching peace but waging war, making free citizens slaves to the system, and where it just seems that people think that poison and fear are good things to use in a campaign for presidency.

My “Truth Shrine” shall in part be The Quotable Queer as it grows through 2005. And, definitely, I am pleased to constantly earn the title of “The Radical Truth-Teller” for as long as there is still breath in my body and spirit in my step.
